This, that, and the other

Life here in the California desert has been pretty nice lately.
The weather has been unseasonably cool. This week we had some days that struggled to reach 80, and since it can already be reaching over 100 this time a year, it is a welcomed surprise. Those of you who have been praying that our spring/summer here wouldn't be too hot, bless you and keep shoot'n 'em up there for us.
It has been a bit windy, which means lots of dust, dirt, and all those chemicals they spray on the crops has been flying around. This has lead to a lot of sneezing, sniffiling, and many words of blessing. Plus, the boys can't exactly go flying giant sheets of metal into the air on those windy days, which meant unexpected days off and unexpected weekend work. But we'll take what we can get, at least we're not melting.

In other news, we are approaching the end of the school year at the homeschool academy. Despite my initial hesitation, we have really enjoyed this program and will be sad that it is over. For their last month, they are studing the ocean. This week they came home with yet another pet, brine shrimp eggs. Thankfully, these are much easier to care for than the dew drop drinking, tiny cricket eating anole lizzard she came home with last time. Ths eggs started hatching today. So, now we have a little aquarium sitting on our dining table, filled with hundreds of teeny tiny shrimp. They will finish their study with a trip to San Diego to see the tide pools. Lucky for us, we will already be soaking up the sun there in San Diego that same weekend. I can hardly wait!
This year my dear husband and I will be celebrating 10 years of wedded bliss. We have been talking about a getaway celebration for over a year, we just never knew where in the country we would be when that time came around. But it has finally arrived and in a few short days we will be savoring the company of good friends while enjoying the California coast. Plus, it's a totally kid free weekend. A VERY rare happening for us. We are lucky to get a few hours away, let alone a whole weekend. I am one lucky girl to have such amazing parents and a sister who will fly across the US just to watch our precious angles! Okay, so the fact that it's an amazing location might have encouraged them, a bit.

A few days after we return, sweet little pie will be having her first recital on a big stage in a big auditorium. She is so excited, and a bit nervous. I too am a little nervous for her. I know that she will do wonderfuly on the ballet, but her tap instructor has been slow to show them their routine ( as in they were still changing it up 3 weeks before the recital!) and they simply have not had enough time to practice. I have yet to see them go through the entire number from start to finish. But regardless, all dressed up in their frilly pink costumes they will look so stinking cute, that not much else matters, right?

After the recital, we'll round out June with VBS. Next, it's off on a camping trip over July 4th. And supposedly, we'll wrap up our summer with a cross country drive to our next job in Mississippi. And yes, I am already teaching the kids to spell it.
